Abstract

This study addresses the legal recognition of multiparenthood in Brazilian Family Law. It is based on the following research problem: how does multiparenthood contribute to the effectiveness of fundamental rights and to the protection of human dignity in contemporary Civil Law. The general objective is to analyze the contribution of this legal institute to the protection of family bonds, considering the evolution of family structures grounded in affection and plurality. The specific objectives are to describe the historical and theoretical aspects of Family Law, examine the configurations of contemporary families, and investigate the treatment of multiparenthood in Brazilian doctrine and jurisprudence, particularly following the decision of Theme 622 by the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court. The relevance of this study lies in the need to understand how the legal system adapts to new forms of family organization. The methodology consists of a literature review with a qualitative and descriptive approach, based on scientific articles, doctrinal books, dissertations, and judicial decisions. The results indicate that the recognition of multiparenthood represents an important legal advancement by ensuring the coexistence of biological and socio-affective bonds, guaranteeing full protection, inheritance and alimony rights, and the best interests of the child and adolescent.
