Anamnesis constitutes one of the fundamental stages of medical care and represents an essential instrument for establishing a clinical diagnosis. It is a systematic process of collecting information obtained through interviews between the health professional and the patient. The objective of this study is to analyze, through a literature review, the importance of anamnesis in medical practice, describing its structure, its main components and its relevance for clinical reasoning. The methodology used was based on a narrative review of the literature in classic medical semiology books and scientific articles in the health area. Of the information necessary for a medical diagnosis, in addition to strengthening the doctor-patient relationship and guiding the request for additional tests. It is concluded that, even in the face of technological advances in medicine, anamnesis remains one of the fundamental pillars of clinical practice.
