Abstract

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) is an advanced cardiopulmonary support technology used in patients with severe respiratory or cardiac failure refractory to conventional therapy. The objective of this study was to review the scientific literature regarding ECMO management by the perfusion team, highlighting their responsibilities in circuit preparation, extracorporeal support monitoring, anticoagulation control, identification of complications, and the weaning and removal process. Articles published between 2015 and 2025 were analyzed. Results indicate that perfusionists play a crucial role in maintaining circuit safety and patient hemodynamic stability.
