Abstract

This article aims to analyze criminality and discuss the role of the Military Police in social prevention within the Brazilian context. The research is based on the understanding that criminality is a complex phenomenon influenced by social, economic, and structural factors, such as inequality, exclusion, and the absence of effective public policies. Methodologically, this is a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study developed through bibliographic research, drawing on classic and contemporary authors from the fields of sociology, criminology, and public security. The results demonstrate that the traditional model for tackling crime, centered on repression, has limitations and is insufficient for promoting lasting changes. In this sense, the importance of social prevention is highlighted as a fundamental strategy through the implementation of integrated public policies and the community-oriented performance of the Military Police. It is concluded that the reduction of criminality depends on the coordination between qualified repressive actions and preventive measures, focusing on the promotion of social justice and the strengthening of community bonds.
